Asana Lab

Is there just one correct way to do an āsana?
I believe it’s more useful to ask what dynamics are happening in the shape, and how that relates to our own anatomy, and where we find ourselves in space.

The “āsana lab” is a place for experimentation - taking one pose at a time, we look at what is going on biomechanically, energetically, and how it relates to the context of the postures around it in the sequence.
I believe that the āsanas are a conversation between our individual bodies and a tradition which is providing us tools to explore, challenge, open, and support ourselves. This means there will always be a version of the pose for every body.

The Āsana Lab -

A monthly class to explore individual asanas and what physical, energetic and contextual dynamics are at play within them. Each month we will take one or two postures and take them apart, exploring:

  • Biomechanics and anatomy - what is happening in the shape?

  • Troubleshooting - avoiding pain and optimising the posture for you

  • Variations and traditions - different approaches to the posture from different lineages and perspectives

  • Assists and adjustments - how we can support ourselves and each other in the poses.

When and where?

Once a month on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm, in person and online at Merchant City Yoga.

Tues 23rd April, May 21st, June 25th, July 23rd.
