Take Flight II -

expansive, leg-driven arm balances (aka Eka Pada Koundinyasana i & ii)

At first it can seem that big shapes like eka pada koundinyasana (EPK) are all about strength and power.
While strength in the right places is very helpful, I have found that what is more useful in putting together these postures is technique, balance, openness, weight distribution, and focus.

EPK is one of my favourite playful shapes and one I have been developing in my own practice, and also teaching to my regular students, for several years. I have thought a lot about what we need in a shape like this, what we don’t, and how to cultivate the skills and patterns to make it come together.

These are the things we will break down and practise in my upcoming arm balance workshop

  • bent-arm strength and making chaturanga work for you

  • a responsive, lively core for integration and lightness

  • mobility, openness, and reach

  • weight distribution and the centre of gravity

  • momentum and balance

In this workshop we’ll explore all these themes through drills and vinyasa sequences, giving you both an understanding of how the body is working but even more importantly the ability to feel into what’s going on even when we are throwing strange shapes.

This workshop is for vinyasa and ashtanga practitioners or those with a little experience in any style of yoga,  but confidence and stability in arm balances is not a prerequisite - that’s exactly what we’ll work on in this workshop.

Join me this July for a workshop to build strength, skill, confidence and FUN as we play with these expansive and expressive shapes.

JULY 29TH 2pm-4.30pm live in person at MCY!
